Aleksandar Mitrovic spearheaded the Newcastle attack in their 2-1 win over Cardiff on Saturday – and fans took to Twitter to hail his performance.
The Serbian striker was preferred in the starting line-up to leading goalscorer Dwight Gayle, who was on the bench after missing the league victory over Preston with a hamstring problem.
Mitrovic, 22, scored a brace against Preston but was unable to add to his five-goal haul in his 10th match this season.
But the Serbia international, who played the full 90 minutes of the match, did supply his second assist of the campaign as he teed up winger Christian Atsu for the opening Newcastle goal.
Newcastle fans on social media delivered mixed reactions to Mitrovic’s display, with some claiming he was excellent while others urged him to be more ruthless in front of goal.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
That was closer than it should have been! Thought Mitrovic was excellent today! A good win! #NUFC ⚫️⚪️

I’ll tell you what, Mitrovic is a terrible footballer. Back to the bench where he belongs now. #NUFC

Christian Atsu has opened the scoring. Aleksandar Mitrovic unselfishly rolled the ball to him. #nufc

Mitrovic should have buried Dummett pass. Can’t see it costing #NUFC, but he needs to stay ruthless in front of goal. It’s 2-0
