Karl Darlow has been selected over Matz Sels in the net for Newcastle’s clash against Norwich on Wednesday evening – and fans took to Twitter to praise Rafa Benitez’s decision.

It’s the 25-year-old’s first league appearance in the new campaign after featuring in two EFL Cup encounters.

Sels had appeared to have locked down the number one position in the early fixtures, but following the club’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend, he has lost his place.

The Magpies have kept six clean sheets in all competitions in the new campaign and fans will be keen for Darlow to maintain the impressive defensive record.

Fans took to social media to praise Benitez’s decision, while some also hoped for Sels to bounce back stronger after being dropped.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Darlow completed a move to St James’ Park in 2014 after a successful spell in goal for Championship side Nottingham Forest.

He spent his first season with the Magpies back on loan at the City Ground and has made just 12 appearances for the north east side with Netherlands international Tim Krul favoured ahead of him.

Fans will be hoping for Newcastle to return to winning ways after failing to pick up a victory in their last two matches knocking them down to ninth place.
