Andros Townsend is set to quit Newcastle for Crystal Palace – and the St James’ Park faithful on Twitter were not too pleased with his decision to link up with former Tyneside boss Alan Pardew.

Football Insider sources have revealed that Palace have triggered the £13million release clause in Townsend’s Newcastle contract and reached an agreement with the player on contract terms.

Pardew managed the North-East club for four years, before leaving for Crystal Palace in 2014, but during his tenure he was a unpopular figure among many the supporters.

Winger Townsend is set to make the switch from Newcastle to London just six months after a £12million transfer from Tottenham.

The goal-scoring winger emerged as a key figure in Newcastle’s survival bid under Benitez and his record of four goals in 13 Premier League games for the club was not enough to help Newcastle avoid relegation.

Supporters on Twitter thanked the former Tottenham player for his time at the club and admitted the England international was too good for Championship football.

However, some felt that working under former Real Madrid manager Rafa Bentiez in the Championship was a much better option than moving to Selhurst Park to play under Alan Pardew’s stewardship in the Premier League.

Here are some of their reactions on Twitter:
