Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko could feature against Huddersfield in the Championship on Saturday, according to a reliable journalist.

The Frenchman has made it clear he hopes to leave Newcastle this summer but he remains at the club and may not have played his last game for north-east giants.

The Chronicle’s Chief Sports Writer Lee Ryder has revealed on his personal Twitter account that Sissoko could make his first appearance of the season on Saturday in what would be his Championship debut.

Sissoko has returned to training following his extended break after his involvement at the Euros and Rafa Benitez looks set to use him whilst he is still at the club.

Newcastle set a huge £35million price tag on Sissoko in the wake of his display in the Euro 2016 final and he has been targeted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The attacking midfielder is contracted with the Toon giants until June 2019, but has made it clear he prefers an immediate move back to top flight football rather than fighting for promotion in the Championship.

The France international was the outstanding player for his team in the latter stages of Euro 2016, in which they lost 1-0 to Portugal in the final.

Sissoko was absent from the Magpies team that began their Championship campaign with a shock 1-0 defeat.

Despite Sissoko’s public announcement that he wishes to leave this summer he could still give one last gift if he plays again in a Newcastle shirt.
