Alan Shearer reminded a jubilant Newcastle that the Tyne-Wear derby draw against Sunderland only helps Norwich in the fight to remain in the Premier League.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 83rd minute header rescued a point and Newcastle’s pride against their local rivals, but fellow relegation battlers Norwich collected their first win in 11 games on Saturday.
Newcastle and Sunderland are both in the drop zone after Norwich’s victory, with the Magpies now three points from safety.
Shearer used his Twitter account to give ecstatic Newcastle fans a reality check after the late equaliser from Mitrovic.

The draw ended a four game losing streak for Newcastle in the league and the weekend’s significance for Norwich was not lost on fellow pundit Gary Lineker.

Norwich’s victory halted a run of six consecutive away defeats and with Sunday’s result, the Canaries will be thinking their relegation escape may have just begun.

After the international break, Newcastle will have the chance to immediately peg back Norwich when they travel to Carrow Road on April 2nd.

In other Newcastle news, Mitrovic has been compared to a Magpies legend.
