Football Insider rates the Newcastle players out of ten after their 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park.

Karl Darlow 7 – Solid display from the goalkeeper who would be disappointed to have conceded but did his job otherwise.

DeAndre Yedlin 7 – A much better player than Anita at right-back. The American linked up well with Matt Ritchie on the right-hand side. Needs more minutes on the field.

Jamaal Lascelles 5 – He was at fault for the Forest goal and as captain needs to show a lot more than just leadership at the back.

Ciaran Clark 6 – Mixed performance from the former Aston Villa man who looked all over the shop in the first half. He produced a lovely assist for Gayle’s first goal of the night.

Paul Dummett 4 – Hard worker who is not good in the long run for the Magpies. The left-back simply cannot provide the threat Benitez’ side require.

Matt Ritchie 7 – He was lucky with his deflected free-kick but the winger did well to provide a threat on the right-hand side. Ritchie in particular linked up well with Yedlin which is going to bode well for the future.

Jack Colback 2 – Another poor showing from the 27-year-old midfielder who was unable to spark the game into life. He needs to pass the ball forward a lot more and be that driving force in the absence of Jonjo Shelvey.

Isaac Hayden 4 – Without Shelvey next to him in midfield, Hayden’s performances have looked a lot worse. As a midfielder, he must help build up the play and provide an attacking threat. Just like Colback, he failed to pass the ball forward.

Christian Atsu 7 – The pacy winger caused Matty Cash problems all evening as he constantly tried to make something happen in the game. Whether it be his direct runs or shots at goal, he tried to make a difference.

Ayoze Perez 3 – Seemed anonymous throughout the 90 minutes. The Spaniard did not just produce a poor display in this game, but he has done this throughout the campaign. It is fair to say Benitez would be better off selling him in January.

Dwight Gayle 8 – He didn’t get into the game as much as he would have liked, but he was still a threat to the opposition. Gayle got into the right positions to score both his goals, including a nice volleyed finish.
