Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has led by example after being name in the English Football League team of the week.
The commanding centre-back scored the first in the Magpies’ convincing 2-0 win against promotion rivals Brighton on Saturday, taking them to three straight league wins.
The EFL posted their team of the week via the official Twitter account, which sees the former Nottingham Forest defender join the likes of QPR’s Nedum Onuoha, Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison and Oldham target man Jay Emannuel-Thomas.

Lascelles scored a stunning header from almost 18 yards out, beating Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale at his near post to give the Toon a 15th-minute lead.
Newcastle’s number six also helped his team complete an impressive clean sheet alongside in-demand defender Chancel Mbemba, who combined well to keep out Brighton’s marksman Glenn Murray.
The 22-year-old was named captain of the Magpies before the Championship’s opening day loss to Fulham.
Lascelles arrived on Tyneside from Nottingham Forest in 2014, but was loaned straight back to the club before the centre-back eventually made his Newcastle debut last season in the League Cup against Northampton Town.
After coming into the side during Newcastle’s relegation dogfight last term, Lascelles has made 27 appearances in total for the North East club.
The 6ft 2in stopper has managed to retain his place in Rafa Benitez’s side despite the signings of Grant Hanley and Ciaran Clark, who continue to warm the bench at St. James’ Park despite big-money moves.
In other Newcastle news, Benitez has made a decision over this £20m Premier League target.
