The former Crystal Palace man scored his side’s second and third goal of the contest, after defender Ciaran Clark opened the scoring.
Brentford striker Scott Hogan scored the last goal of the game with a consolation strike, which ended Newcastle’s hopes of a clean sheet.
Gayle, 25, completed a move to St James’ Park in the summer in a £10million deal.
He has started life at his new club in impressive form with nine goals from his opening eleven appearances for the north east club.
His form has helped Newcastle start life in the Championship well, with the club currently sat in second place with 25 points from their first 12 fixtures in England’s second tier.
They will travel to Barnsley on Tuesday and Rafa Benitez’s side will be keen to continue their three-match winning run.
In other Newcastle team news, Benitez has opted to leave out senior duo Mohamed Diame and Chancel Mbemba on Tuesday night against Barnsley.
