Newcastle are tracking young Partizan defender Nikola Milenkovic, according to a report.

Serbian news outlet Vesti Sport have claimed that the Toon have regularly sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old centre-back playing for his side.

However, the report also claims that European giants Anderlecht and Ajax are also watching the young Serbian star.

Milenkovic is under contract at Partizan until 2020, meaning that Newcastle may have to stump up a large fee for the young prospect.

He has also made 12 appearances for his side in all competitions in the new campaign, establishing himself as key part of his club’s defence at such a young age.

Newcastle currently already have one Serbian in their ranks with Aleksandar Mitrovic, who remarkably made the switch from Partizan to Anderlecht before switching to Newcastle in a £13million deal last summer.

Manager Rafa Benitez will also be looking to snap up a player, who has great potential in football.

However, the north east club are currently strong in the central defensive positions, boasting Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Grant Hanley.

Newcastle are currently sat in second place in England’s second tier with 25 points from 12 games, as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies sold James Milner to Aston Villa eight years ago because they thought they could sign Bastian Schweinsteiger.
