Lazio are awaiting the answer of Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin on whether he wants to join them or Marseille this summer, according to a report.
The 23-year-old is set for an exit from St James’ Park after failing to make an impression with the Magpies in his first season.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that Lazio have been told they can expect a reply from Thauvin by Monday.
Thuavin has the choice between the Serie A side or a return to Marseille where he spent the second half of last season on loan.
Newcastle bought the attacker from Marseille last summer for a fee reported to be £13million with Thauvin signing a five-year deal at the time.
Lazio are happy to take Thauvin on loan and have the option to buy the player for around £10million at the end of the season.
Newcastle have no issue with letting the winger leave the club after bringing in several new faces including Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie in recent weeks.
Rafael Benitez’s squad are preparing for their Championship opener against Fulham on Friday night.
The Magpies are aiming to make their stay in the second division as short as possible and claim automatic promotion back into the Premier League.
In other Newcastle news, Benitez has given an update on the Euro 2016 star that also wants out of the club.
