Manchester City have agreed to sign defender Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia for a fee of £28.4million, Football Insider sources understand.
The Argentine centre-back, 27, is set to fly to London on Monday to complete the formalities of the transfer to Etihad Stadium.
City made a breakthrough over the weekend in talks with Valencia over signing the player and all parties are now confident the deal will go ahead.
The Argentina international joined Valencia from Porto last year and was a key figure in the Spanish club qualifying for this season’s Champions League.
He formed a strong partnership with City defender Eliaquim Mangala at Porto and Valencia have asked to take him on loan as part of the deal.
The Premier League club have beaten big rivals Manchester United to the signing of Otamendi, who is regarded as a combative centre-back.
