Club-record signing Sadio Mane has been named Liverpool’s Player of the Month for August after a superb start to his Merseyside career.

The 24-year-old has hit the ground running after moving to Anfield for £35million, scoring in Liverpool’s opening Premier League match against Liverpool before providing two assists against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup.

Liverpool announced the news via their website on Wednesday, with his goal against rivals Arsenal being described as an early “goal of the season contender.”

There have been question marks over the fitness of the Senegal international this week, after he was taken off during his country’s 2-0 African Cup of Nations qualifying win against Namibia.

The Telegraph claimed on Monday that Klopp was so worried that the former Red Bull Salzburg star had suffered a serious injury that he phoned Mane personally.

His fears have been allayed though and the attacker is now set to feature against Premier League champions Leicester on Saturday.

Speed merchant Mane spent two seasons at Southampton before leaving, and in that time he scored 25 times in 75 games.

Liverpool’s number 19 shone in the Premier League last season with 11 goals and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp decided he was worth big money to bring to Anfield. He’s settled in quickly to become one of their biggest threats of the new season.

In other Liverpool news, this international midfielder has revealed why he left Merseyside this summer.
