Opposition fans were frustrated on Twitter as it was revealed Jordan Henderson will captain England and Wayne Rooney will not start on Tuesday night.
Henderson is set to wear the armband for England as they take on Spain in the international friendly on Tuesday evening but Rooney is a doubt after he was forced to miss training on Monday due to a minor injury.
Gareth Southgate admitted Rooney would not have started despite his injury and Liverpool skipper Henderson was always in line to be named captain against Spain.
He will step in for the second time after he wore the armband for the first time in England’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia in October, after picking up the man-of-the-match award against Malta.
Henderson has started every Premier League game for Liverpool this season and has been in excellent form alongside Georginio Wijnaldum, Emre Can and Adam Lallana in midfield.
He’s become a fan favourite and has shown huge progression since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival but receives a lot of criticism from opposition fans who believe he is not strong enough to captain the England side.
