Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles has revealed his delight after England star Eric Dier signed a new five-year contract with the club.

The versatile midfielder has continued his fine form from last season, when he became one of the first names on the Spurs’ team sheet and broke into the England side.

Spurs revealed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that Dier has put pen to paper on a new agreement that runs until 2021.

Ardiles, 64, revealed on his personal Twitter account that the former Sporting Lisbon man signing a new contract was a plus, as he has been “so impressed” with Dier as he praised his “character” and “versatility”.

Dier’s new deal comes only 12 months after signing a four-year deal last summer, which was worth £35,000 a week.

The Champions League side, who face Monaco on Wednesday, are looking to tie up a number of deals after Christian Eriksen also put pen to paper on a new contract and have also reportedly agreed a deal to tie down Kyle Walker’s future.

Ex-Argentina international Ardiles spent 10 years at Tottenham as a central-midfielder and spent time with Paris Saint-Germain, Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers before retiring from the game in 1991.

In other Tottenham news, talks have begun over a landmark deal.
