Mesut Ozil is hopeful of playing for Arsenal in their Premier League showdown against Chelsea next week, he revealed on Instagram.

The Gunners playmaker stayed at home with a foot injury as his team-mates took on Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday that Ozil was a doubt for Stoke after being absent from training on Saturday.

Arsenal’s official Twitter account claimed that Ozil has a “slight foot injury” and the player himself insisted the problem was not serious.

Ozil posted a picture of himself on his Instagram account at home watching the team’s televised clash against Stoke, with his dog on his lap.

The Germany World Cup winner added the message: “Balboa and me watching today’s match against Stoke! Hopefully I’ll be back well for the next match. But for now: COME ON YOU GUNNERS”.

Ozil has been wrapped in cotton wool by Arsene Wenger over the last month as the manager attempts to keep his star player in prime condition.

He was rested for the Gunner’s FA Cup third round clash against Sunderland a week ago and has trained only intermittently over the last month.

Football Insider revealed on 2 January that Ozil led Arsenal’s title charge over the festive period despite struggling with a virus and hardly trained due to the condition, which was later confirmed by Wenger.
