Crystal Palace are weighing up a swoop for Christian Benteke, according to reports.

The Daily Star claim that Eagle’s manager Alan Pardew is eyeing up a move for Liverpool’s £32.5million forward in a bid to strenghten their misfiring front-line.

Palace finished this season in 15th place but scored just 39 goals in the Premier League, the same as Norwich and less than relegated Newcastle.

Pardew has now assembled a shortlist of targets, which is said to feature Liverpool’s second most expensive ever signing.

Benteke managed just 10 goals and six assists in his first season with the Reds but his goals-per-minutes ratio was creditable and he was even more prolific at former club Aston Villa, where he scored 49 goals in 101 games.

Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi now seem firmly ahead of the 25-year-old forward in Klopp’s pecking order and a lack of playing time could push the former Genk striker towards the exit door.

The 6ft 3in Belgium international is currently competing at the European Championships with his country but is yet to score at the tournament.

Benteke is contracted to Liverpool until 2020 but a sizeable bid could tempt Jurgen Klopp to cash in on the misfiring forward.

In other Liverpool news, Adam Lallana is set to start England’s last-16 clash against Iceland on Monday and he will be joined in the team by one of his club colleagues.
