Pat Nevin believes that Ashley Williams would be a great addition to the Everton side.

Wales Online reported on Monday night that Wiliiams is set to complete a £10million move to Goodison Park within 48 hours.

Nevin is a former Everton player and thinks that the centre-back will bolster Ronald Koeman’s side.

“What’s not to like about getting Ashley Williams?” Nevin told BBC Wales. “He understands the game, he has real bravery and is a real leader as well.

“I don’t think many Evertonians, or any fans of many clubs, would say no to Ashley Williams. Everyone is looking for a dependable centre half and he’s one. I’ve heard £10m – that would be great business for Everton.”

Williams looks set to replace the outgoing John Stones, after Sky Sports’ News’ chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed that young defender Stones is expected to complete a £50million transfer to Manchester City this week.

Williams helped Swansea to a twelfth-placed finish last season before being a key figure for Wales as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

He has two years remaining on his current deal and has developed himself into one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League, starting all but two of Swansea’s 38 league matches last season.

The 31-year-old has been at the Liberty Stadium for the last eight years and is captain of both his club and country.

Williams would compete with current centre-backs Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori for a starting place.

In other Everton transfer news, they are set to lose out on a midfield target as he opts to join Premier League rivals.
