Paul McGrath has claimed that Aston Villa’s Tuesday clash against Norwich “won’t be easy”.

The former Villa defender is an avid fan of the Midlands giants, but believes his side’s away trip to Carrow Road will prove tough as the two former Premier League sides prepare to do battle.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, McGrath told the Villa squad to “bring home the points” against the Canaries.

Villa will be looking to build on their last-gasp win against Wigan on Saturday, which saw academy product Jack Grealish curl a superb effort into the top corner in the 88th minute to earn a 1-0 win.

Manager Steve Bruce will be hoping his side can compound the misery on Alex Neil’s side, who have gone from title challengers to two points adrift of the playoffs.

One win in nine matches has seen the Canaries slip down the table, and Villa could leapfrog their former Premier League counterparts with a win in East Anglia.

All three points could see the Midlands giants move as high as seventh, despite languishing above the relegation zone earlier in the season under Italian boss Roberto Di Matteo.

McGrath, who also played for Manchester United and Derby County during his career, made 323 league and cup appearances for Villa between 1989 and 1997.

In other Aston Villa news, this Rangers sensation could be the man to boost Villa’s promotion hopes.
