Paul McGrath expressed his love for Aston Villa on Twitter as they beat QPR 1-0 at Loftus Road on Sunday afternoon.

Jonathan Kodjia, who missed a first-half penalty, scored a goal after the break to help Steve Bruce’s side secure all three points in their push for promotion.

The Midlands side dominated proceedings in London, with the away side recording 18 efforts on goal compared to the hosts eight.

But it was Kodjia’s low effort 15 minutes from time which secured a valuable three points for Villa and Bruce’s sixth win in 11 games as boss – his predecessor Roberto Di Matteo picked up one win in 11.

After the win club legend McGrath was in jubilant mood on his personal Twitter account as he posted these messages.

Ivory Coast international Kodjia has scored eight goals in 17 league games for Villa this season following his summer transfer from Bristol City.

His goals have helped Villa make a push for promotion this term, but they are still six points adrift of the play-off places going into the busy festive period.

Villa currently sit in 13th place in the Championship table on 31 points from 22 games, with Sheffield Wednesday sitting in sixth on 37 points.

Bruce’s side host Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion on Boxing day, before a mouth-watering tie against Leeds on home soil three days later.
