Paul Merson believes Tottenham will drop points against Stoke on Saturday, and predicted a 1-1 draw.
Sky Sports pundit Merson stated that Stoke’s deadline day signing Wilfred Bony will add a different dimension to the match, despite a slow start to the season for Stoke.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have already picked up two draws in three games this season, both 1-1, against Merseyside duo Everton and Liverpool.
And ex-Arsenal man Merson has backed Mark Hughes’ side to bag a point at home, with the outspoken pundit unwilling to go against the Potters at the Bet365 Stadium.
“I don’t typically go against Stoke at home because they are a difficult team to beat, but they need to get their campaign up and running,” Merson wrote in his Sky Sports column.
“Tottenham had a fantastic result there last season after they scored early in the game, but the addition of Wilfried Bony brings something different to the table for Stoke.”
These two sides last met in April when title-chasing Spurs thrashed Stoke 4-0 at home, as the north London club went on to finish third in the 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
Stoke are yet to pick up a win this season in the league, but they did thrash fourth-tier side Stevenage 4-0 in the second round of the League cup.
Merson isn’t the only pundit predicting a 1-1 score either. Charlie Nicholas also thinks the spoils will be shared in a 1-1 draw at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.
