Paul Merson has predicted that Tottenham will have too much going forward and that Harry Kane will get going ahead of the clash against Liverpool on Saturday.

Merson has predicted a close scoreline but believes that the north London club will come out on top to secure a 2-1 victory.

Liverpool suffered a shock 2-0 defeat against Burnley last weekend, after beating Arsenal 4-3 on the opening day.

Meanwhile, Tottenham ground out a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace last weekend, after they were held to a 1-1 draw in their season opener against Everton.

The Soccer Saturday pundit recalled the Merseyside club’s opening display and described their first half performance as “terrible.”

“I fancy Tottenham. Take away the Philippe Coutinho goal against Arsenal on the opening day and Liverpool were terrible in the first half,” Merson wrote in his Sky Sports column.

“I think Spurs will have too much for them going forward.

“I have been impressed with Spurs. They had a hard start at Everton, dug in and got the draw.

“They didn’t play great against Crystal Palace last weekend but they were solid and got the late goal. That’s what you have to do.

“Harry Kane hasn’t got going yet but he will.”

The last time the two clubs met in April they shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw thanks to goals from Kane and Liverpool star man Philippe Coutinho.

Last season’s Premier League top scorer is waiting for his first goal of the new campaign, but it took him until the seventh match to get off the mark last term.

Both managers will be hoping their respective sides will be battling near the top of the table when the season draws to an end and the weekend match could be vital.

The tie is being broadcasted by Sky Sports in the early kick off slot at 12:30pm.
