Paul Merson is confident Tottenham will emerge victorious in their must-win clash against Manchester United this weekend.

Spurs host Louis van Gaal’s team at White Hart Lane on Sunday as they attempt to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Leicester.

Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Merson has predicted a 3-1 win for the big rivals of his former club.

Leicester are seven points clear at the top and will extend their lead over Tottenham at kick-off to 10 points if they win at Sunderland in Sunday’s earlier clash.

Victory is not only imperative for Mauricio Pochettino’s title-chasers but also for United as they maintain their push for a top-four Premier League finish.

“Both teams have got to win this,” wrote Merson in his Sky Sports column on Thursday night. “It’s getting to that part of the season where it’s good because draws are no good to anybody, but I don’t see anything other than a Tottenham win.

Dark days: Van Gaal’s position remains under threat at United

“Tottenham are a very good team and I expect them to keep the pressure on Leicester. They did very well when they had to play catch up with Bournemouth and beat them quite convincingly. If Leicester don’t win then it’s a bonus.

“If Leicester do win, I think that will be it. Even if Tottenham also pick up three points, they’d still be seven points behind with five games to go, so for me, this weekend is the big weekend.”

United are a point behind fourth-placed Manchester City as the race for the final Champions League place hots up.

In other Tottenham news, it has been reported that Bayern Munich have a “crush” on a 22-year-old Spurs ace.
