Paul Merson has backed Tottenham to beat Premier League champions Leicester City at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has predicted the home side to win 2-0 in the first of a number of tricky fixtures coming up for the north London club.

Spurs host Bayern Leverkusen at Wembley in the Champions League next Wednesday, before travelling to the Emirates to take on bitter rivals Arsenal.

But outspoken pundit Merson believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side will continue their unbeaten start to the season and comfortably beat Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes.

“It’s an interesting game for Tottenham because they’re coming off a draw against Bournemouth, and if they drop points on Saturday, their next league game is away at Arsenal after a Champions League tie,” Merson wrote in his Sky Sports column.

“It’s potentially a tricky little run so it makes beating Leicester quite important. I expect them to do it with Ranieri naming a similar team to the one that lost to Chelsea.”

A youthful Spurs side lose 2-1 to Liverpool on Tuesday night, as they were dumped out of the EFL Cup at Anfield.

They now turn their attention to the Premier League, where they are fifth with 19 points, after nine games.

Pochettino’s side are a point behind Manchester City and Arsenal, who occupy first and second in the table respectively, as they could go top at the weekend, if other results go their way.

In other Tottenham team news, Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has provided his verdict on whether the north London club are title challenges.
