Peter Withe has backed Brian Little to take over the vacant managerial post at Aston Villa until the end of the season.
Roberto Di Matteo was sacked as manager on Monday, with former Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce the bookies favourite to take over the Villa Park post.
Owner Tony Xia, chief executive Keith Wyness, technical director Steve Round and board member Little are tasked to appoint the next Villa boss in the coming week.
But club legend Withe believes the answer to the club’s next manger is closer to home, as he gave his backing to former player and manager Little.
“All the names thrown into the hat think they should consider Brian Little till end of season knows the club and what is needed,” Withe wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Little last managed the Midlands side between 1994-98, providing the club’s last piece of silverware in 1996, when Villa beat Leeds 3-0 in the league cup final at Wembley.
Now, the Villa Park club are languishing in the bottom half of the Championship, with ten points from 11 games.
Villa will host Midlands rivals Wolves after the international break, looking for their second win of the campaign, with caretaker boss Steve Clarke currently in charge of first team duties.
In other Aston Villa news, this manager has held talks with the club over the vacant managerial position.
