Petr Cech will undergo a medical at Arsenal on Friday and complete an £11million transfer from Chelsea, Football Insider sources understand.
The goalkeeper will sign a three-year Arsenal contract and be announced this weekend as the club’s first signing of the summer.
As revealed by Football Insider, Cech agreed personal terms worth more than £100,000-a-week last month and the final hurdle to the transfer was removed last week when the west Londoners gave their blessing for him to move to Emirates Stadium.
The deal is understood to be finalised barring the completion of the medical and official registration.
The capture of Cech, 33, is regarded by Arsene Wenger as a huge coup following a series of attempts to land a player he first targeted in the summer of 2013.
Football Insider revealed last week that the move was ’99 per cent done”, with the only hurdle said to be Jose Mourinho, who is not trusted by senior officials at Emirates Stadium.
However, Mourinho was overruled by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Cech informed the club at a meeting on Monday of last week of his intention to make the short move across London this summer.
The two clubs consequently agreed an £11m fee following weeks of talks about the structure of a deal that is widely regarded as the most sensational of the summer transfer window to date.
The Arsenal futures of Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina are both up in the air following the club’s capture of Cech.
Szczesny’s public stance is that he will stay and fight for his place but it is understood that he has been kicking up a fuss behind the scenes.
David Ospina ended last season as the Gunners’ No1 but the club could listen to offers for the Colombian, who was signed from Nice only last summer.
