Goalkeeper hero Phil Parkes believes that Adrian “has been off his game generally this season” for West Ham.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has made 12 appearances for the club this season conceding 22 goals and keeping just three clean sheets.

He also dropped a clanger in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham, as he left his line joining a crowded area, which in turn allowed Bojan to score in an empty net.

Now Parkes, who starred in goal for the Hammers for 11 years between 1979 and 1990 believes that the east London side’s number one has been below par this season, suggesting a Darren Randolph call-up.

“There’s no question in my mind that Adrian – whom I really like as a keeper at his best – has been off his game generally this season and that has affected the back four,” wrote Parkes in his column for fan site Claret and Hugh.

“Whilst Saturday’s mistake was an absolute shocker there have been some other errors notably against Watford when in my book he was responsible for a couple of the goals and maybe at Everton where he could possibly have done better with both goals.

“Slav has said this morning that he remains his Number One which is all well and good but personally I think the guy needs a rest as like several others he looks short on confidence.

“It happens and I think the fair thing to do is to bring in Darren Randolph, an international goalkeeper who has never let us down.

“It’s also worth remembering he was in goal when we gave our best performance of the season against Chelsea.

“As I say I’m a big admirer of Adrian but neither he or anyone else can become an “untouchable.” We’ve been down that road before and it doesn’t work.”

Saturday’s draw has left the Hammers in a lowly 17th place in the Premier League table, while a win would have seen have seen them lifted up to 12th.

They will face a tough battle against Tottenham after the international break, who are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League after 11 fixtures and sit in fifth place in the league.
