Football Insider rates the England players in their 2-2 draw against Spain in Tuesday night’s friendly at Wembley:
Joe Hart 6 – So little to do he could have set a record for the longest mannequin challenge. Made way at half-time.
Nathaniel Clyne 7 – Impressed with some forward surging runs and continues to breathe on the neck of first choice right-back Kyle Walker.
Gary Cahill 5 – Was able to cruise through the game but his wonky passing once again suggested he is not a medium-term fit for the passing game from the back that Gareth Southgate wants.
John Stones 7 – Cool, calm and ultra composed. One chipped ball to Eric Dier on the edge of his own area caused flutters but otherwise in control.
Danny Rose 7 – Strengthened his case as the best left back in the country, his challenges were strong and his passes were smooth and smart.
Jordan Henderson 7 – Captain delivered a succession of fine balls, the best creating the decisive second goal for Jamie Vardy, and covered every blade of grass.
Eric Dier 6 – Not a night to showcase his qualities but did his job with diligence.
Raheem Sterling 7 – Started slowly but got better and was a genuine threat to Spain down the flanks with his electric pace.
Adam Lallana 8 Delivered a sumptuous through ball to Vardy for the early penalty and converted it nervelessly. Had just started to boss the game when injury struck.
Jesse Lingard 7 – His link-up play and work-rate was impressive.
Jamie Vardy 8 – Terrible early tackle on Azpilicueta the only blemish on a display in which he won a penalty and scored the team’s second goal.
Theo Walcott (for Lallana 26mins) 6
Tom Heaton (for Joe Hart 46mins) – 6
Phil Jagielka (for Gary Cahill 46mins) 5
Andros Townsend (for Raheem Sterling 65mins) 6
Marcus Rashford (for Jamie Vardy 67mins) 6
