Mauricio Pochettino has praised “fantastic” Harry Kane for his performance in Tottenham’s 6-1 demolition of Inter Milan.

Kane featured for 62 minutes in the pre-season friendly rout on Friday evening and managed to get on the score sheet twice, with a penalty after five minutes and a neat finish around the hour mark.

Talking after the match, as quoted by the Mail, Pochettino said Kane was ready for another big season alongside new signing Vincent Janssen.

“It was a great performance from Harry. We told you he would come back strong,” said Pochettino.

“He played for one hour and looked fantastic. He is raring to go.

“It is always important for strikers to score, even in friendlies, so it was good to see Harry and Janssen get goals.

“We can improve but I am happy with this performance.”

Kane, 23, was the Premier League top goalscorer last season with 25 goals but he had a poor Euro 2016 for England and there were fears he had burnt out.

Dele Alli also impressed after curling an effort around opposition goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, and was brought off after 76 minutes.

Erik Lamela, Shayon Harrison and Janssen also got on the scoresheet during the match.

Tottenham have bolstered their squad this summer with Victor Wanyama and Janssen agreeing moves to White Hart Lane, while Georges Kevin-N’Koudou has now passed a medical at the club according to La Provence.

They are building for their first game of the Premier League season when they travel to Goodison Park to play Everton next Saturday.

Last season saw them battle Leicester for the title, before eventually falling off the hunt and finishing behind Arsenal in third.

In other Tottenham news, their former ace, on reported £40,000-a-week, has been told he will be axed after returning to the club late and overweight.
