Mauricio Pochettino has admitted Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.

Football Insider revealed last month that the Premier League high flyers had sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old in action in Ligue 1.

Pochettino told French radio station RMC Sport on Tuesday afternoon that Batshuayi is one of the strikers on Spurs’ radar as they look to bolster a forward line heavily reliant upon Harry Kane.

“We look for a striker this summer,” Pochettino said, when asked specifically about Batshuayi. “This player is young and has a lot of talent. We are following him. Logically, he should be on the list of many clubs.

“We have people who have given us information about him. He has some potential…we’ll see, we have other players in our sights.”

The Marseille spearhead has been targeted by a number of Premier League clubs on the back of a fine campaign in the French League.

The 22-year-old has scored 20 goals and supplied 10 assists in 46 matches in all competitions this season, including 15 goals and nine assists from 33 Ligue 1 encounters.

Liverpool and West Ham have been strongly linked with the prolific striker, but Spurs could have an advantage over their Premier League rivals.

According to talkSPORT, Batshuayi will prioritise clubs playing in the Champions League if he decides to leave Marseille at the end of the season.

Marseille are 16th in Ligue 1 and just five points above the relegation zone, leading to a growing expectancy that they will cash in on one of their prize assets in the summer.

As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol is convinced that Batshuayi, who is rated in the £20million bracket, could join the growing ranks of Belgium internationals in the Premier League next season by replacing Christian Benteke.

Title chasers Spurs would appear to have an advantage as they are almost certain of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Liverpool and West Ham have only outside chances of qualifying through the Premier League, although the Merseysiders are in the Europa League semi-finals and will be in next season’s Champions League if they win the competition.

French sports daily L’Equipe reported on Sunday that Spurs are closely monitoring Batshuayi along with Alexandre Lacazette and Samuel Umtiti.

In other Liverpool transfer news, West Brom are said to be closely monitoring an attacker at the club.
