Kevin Wimmer has admitted he is having a “difficult” time at Tottenham despite being told he’s the future of their defence – and fans on Twitter think he needs to careful about what he says.
The 23-year-old has failed to make a single league appearance this term, with manager Mauricio Pochettino preferring the senior pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
As a result Wimmer has spoken about his future to Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung, with supporters stating his club manager will not appreciate him making such comments while on international duty.
Other supporters echoed those views, saying the Austrian should have been more careful, with one fan claiming he is the new Nabil Bentaleb.
One supporter was concerned his comments would mean they might lose Wimmer, who he sees as a great understudy to Spurs’ regular defensive pairing.
Here is a selection of fans’ messages on Twitter:
Wimmer most definitely seen as an understudy to Vertonghen, however Poch won't appreciate player going public on lack of game-time.#THFC

Unfortunately for Wimmer, we have a fantastic Belgium pairing. I'm sure he will have opportunities In the future.

#thfc Wimmer needs to be careful about speaking out and angering Poch but I don't think his comments are too bad – "patiently waiting" etc.

Definitely deserves first-team football, but I doubt we'll get a replacement anywhere near as efficient as we have in Wimmer

Wimmer is apparently "considering his future" at Spurs due to his lack of matches. It's hard because both him and Jan are great players.

The Austria international made 10 appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham last season but is yet to play a single minute of their league campaign this term.
Indeed, his only appearance for the club this season has been in the League Cup against third-tier minnows Gillingham.
In other Tottenham team news, a BBC journalist has claimed this Spurs player was wasteful while on international duty.
