Nick Powell is set to undergo a Hull medical on deadline day ahead of a loan move from Manchester United, Football Insider sources understand.
Manager Steve Bruce confirmed on Friday that he was trying to sign the 21-year-old playmaker on loan until the end of the season.
A source close to the situation has told Football Insider that negotiations continued over the weekend and there is hope from all parties that the deal can be finalised before Monday night’s 11pm deadline.
Powell was in the stands at Gigg Lane on Saturday to watch Hull beat Bury 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round.
A United source has told Football Insider that Hull are looking to complete a deal for Slovakian goalkeeper Dusan Kuciak on Monday morning before finalising the Powell switch.
Talks are centred on the cost of the loan fee, with United keen to negotiate a bonus if Powell helps get the Championship high flyers promoted to the Premier League.
Speaking on Saturday, Bruce confirmed Hull are working on a deal for Powell, who is out of contract in the summer.
He said: “There’s still some work to be done but hopefully we can get it over the line. I wouldn’t be bringing him in if I didn’t think he could enhance us.
“Last season we had four or five players go down with long-term injuries so we’ve got to guard against that.”
If a deal can be agreed, there is a possibility that Powell has played his last game for United.
The 21-year-old has had scarce first-team involvement at Old Trafford after making little progress during his three-and-a-half years at the club.
He has made only nine first-team appearances and just two this season, which bizarrely came when he was thrust on as a substitute for Juan Mata when Louis van Gaal’s team were chasing late goals against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth in December.
In other Manchester United transfer news, Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela is on standy to complete a deadline day loan move to Genoa.
