QPR fans were relieved to see Massimo Luongo’s name in the starting XI against Wolves after the midfielder missed their 3-0 defeat against Ipswich last Saturday.
The 24-year-old missed the game through illness but has been one of the club’s best performers this season, notching up 13 league appearances already this season.
The Brazilian grabbed assists against Burton Albion and Bristol City earlier this month and picked up the Man of the Match awards in both games and has become a regular starter in midfield.
Luongo lined-up in the holding role alongside Sandro as Ian Holloway’s side set up in a new-look 4-4-2 formation to allow Conor Washington to play in his preferred role as a centre-forward next to Sebastian Polter.
The midfielder produced a fairly good display and brought composure to QPR’s midfield, which was something they lacked against Ipswich last weekend.
His side were unfortunate because they were forced to play with just 10 men for two-thirds of the game after James Perch received a red card before half-time.
They started the game brightly prior to the sending off but Perch’s dismissal proved costly and QPR couldn’t get themselves back into the frame, eventually losing 2-1 to Wolves.
QPR currently sit in 15th position following the defeat and are struggling to hit top form despite showing some improvement under Holloway.
Their next fixture is against Rotherham in the Championship on Saturday.

Sandro and Luongo in the middle, I like it 👍🏻 Gladwin on the bench but not the 2 Poles or Shodipo though 🤔🤔 #QPR

Luongo being back is key. Happy to see the back three and wing backs again. Chery and Mass very important today. #QPR

Only Chery (11) has more assists for QPR in all comps than Luongo (8) since the start of last season. #QPR
