Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez held an open training session at St James Park on Monday afternoon as 10,000 fans watched their new signings being put through their paces, as shown by the club’s official Twitter account.

The Spaniard is looking to gain instant promotion back to the Premier League with the Championship favourites.

New summer signings Dwight Gayle and Matt Richie arrived from the Premier League for £10million each, while centre-back Grant Hanley made a £5.5million switch from rivals Blackburn.

Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels put pen to paper for £5million, while midfield enforcer Isaac Hayden and Champions League defender Jesus Gamez have beefed up the squad.

All took part in the club’s training session as this post from a supporters Twitter account shows.

Moussa Sissoko who is a reported £30 million target for Real Madrid was not involved in training after he returned on the day to take part in the club’s pre-season tests.

The highly-sought attacking midfielder was on an extended break following France’s shock final loss to Portugal at the recently concluded European Championships.

Bentiez is now preparing for the club’s opening fixture against Fulham on August 5 with the Magpies set to increase their spending power by announcing the signing of Hull Midfielder Mo Diame after triggering his release clause.

The powerful central-midfielder was a pivotal part of Hull gaining instant promotion back to the Premier League last season, as seen by his winning goal in the play-off finals.

In other Newcastle team news, the club are close to making two new additions to Benitez’s squad.
