Andy Halliday has namechecked Niko Kranjcar as the new Rangers signing who has impressed him the most.

The Gers have had a busy summer after signing eight new players including the former Tottenham winger as well Joey Barton, Clint Hill, Matt Gilks and Jordan Rossiter.

The Scottish giants have returned to the top tier for the first time in four years after financial complications lead to their relegation from the SPL and they are now aiming to stop Celtic’s bid for a sixth consecutive title.

Midfielder Halliday admits every Rangers player needs to be on their toes.

“This year is what it’s all about to be a Rangers player,” Halliday told Herald Scotland. “Yes, [Kranjcar and Barton are] two big signings and two big CVs.”

“I’ve seen first hand the ability Niko has brought to training but Josh Windass and Clint (Hill) are good signings too. We are all enjoying it and looking forward to the new season.”

Kranjcar is infamous among England fans after his long range opener for Croatia against the Three Lions at Euro 2008. Croatia eventually won the game 3–2, resulting in England’s failure to qualify for the final tournament.

More recently the 31-year-old bagged a goal and an assist this season whilst competing for the New York Cosmos in the NASL Spring Championship before his move to Scotland this summer.

In other Rangers news, Ibrox manager Mark Warburton has ruled his side out of the running for Wigan forward Will Grigg.
