Rangers are in talks over a deal to sign Joleon Lescott from Aston Villa – and supporters of the Scottish giants are split on whether they should sign the highly-criticised centre-back.
The Scottish Sun claim the Glasgow giants are working on a transfer that would take the former England international to Ibrox.
Lescott signed for Villa from Midland rivals West Brom last summer for a fee of £1.5million, but endured a nightmare debut season with the club and has played no part in Roberto Di Matteo’s opening three matches of the new campaign.
However, one Rangers supporter felt that signing the 33-year-old would lead to their relegation, but others were of the opinion that they would take him in a “heartbeat”.
Lescott’s former teammate at Villa, Philippe Senderos is currently training with the Premiership club, with one fan stating that he would take the former Arsenal man ahead of Lescott because of his attitude.
However, other supporters pointed out that despite Lescott’s wretched performances on the field last season, the standard of Scottish football will suit the former Premier League winner.
Here are Rangers fans reacting to the Lescott news on Twitter:
Lescott played for Villa’s under-23s on Monday afternoon, as he was substituted in the 66th minute in their opening league match with Wolves, with Di Matteo informing the experienced defender that he can leave the club.
In other Rangers transfer news, Mark Warburton’s side a close to completing a £1.8 million swoop for this Championship attacker.
