Joey Barton visited Rangers on Saturday for talks with the club – and supporters took to Twitter to express their delight and confusion.

The 33-year-old former England international has been a revelation for Burnley this season as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

But Barton is out of contract in the summer, and without an offer from Burnley on the table, his future remains up in the air.

Rangers are among the clubs keen to sign Barton and Sky Sports News claimed on Saturday afternoon that the midfielder has been at Rangers’ Murray Park training ground earlier in the day.

The former Manchester City, Newcastle, QPR and Marseille midfielder could be heading for a career swansong with Rangers.

This has met with scepticism in Glasgow, where supporters appreciate that more wealthy clubs down south can offer Barton a more lucrative package.

Fans took to Twitter to give their verdicts on the possibility of Barton moving to Rangers.

In other Rangers news, one of the team’s emerging stars could be playing in the Premier League next season.
