Matt Gilks delivered a great performance against Celtic on Sunday – and the Rangers supporters praised the goalkeeper on Twitter.

Rangers slipped to a 1-0 defeat to their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

Forward Moussa Dembele scored the winning goal in the 87th minute, after converting a cross from team-mate Leigh Griffiths.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton decided to stick with goalkeeper Gilks for the cup tie and he pulled off several top saves during the match to keep it a contest.

The 34-year-old is yet to make an appearance in the league but may have put pressure on current number one Wes Foderingham.

Rangers fans believe that Gilks was the man-of-the-match against Celtic and one fan claimed he should be recalled to the Scotland national side.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Gilks moved to Rangers in the summer and was purchased to provided back-up for Foderingham.

The veteran goalkeeper had not conceded on his previous for match for the Gers but was finally beaten by in-form striker Dembele, who has scored 14 goals in just 20 appearances for Celtic.

Gilks has plenty of top level experience and made 200 appearances for ex-club Blackpool.

Rangers play St Johnston in their next league match and fans are pushing for Gilks to make his first league start.

In other Rangers team news, the club’s supporters reacted on Twitter to James Tavernier’s performance against Celtic.
