Mark Warburton is convinced the combination of European action and the return of the regular Old Firm derby will enable him to lure top players to Rangers this summer.

The Ibrox boss has said he wants to sign “five or six” new players during the forthcoming transfer window as the club prepare for a return to the top flight after a four-year absence.

Warburton has made it clear that he wants to assemble a squad capable of taking on Celtic in the top flight.

Ronny Deila’s side are on the verge of clinching a fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title but the Norwegian leaves at the end of the season following a series of cup and European disappointments and there is a sense of a shift in the Old Firm landscape.

Rangers knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup at the semi-final stage last weekend and a win in the final over Hibernian would secure European qualification 12 months ahead of schedule.

“From a recruitment perspective you use every tool you can,” said Warburton, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. ““We need five or six. If we do get into Europe, then maybe that places a demand for one or two more on top of that.

“I was told when I started, the first Old Firm game and the first European night will be the two big ones towards Rangers being back. If we can achieve that I’m sure it will be fantastic.

“If you can throw Europe into the mix, fantastic. When you’ve got games against Aberdeen, Hearts all other teams in the Prem, that hopefully allows you to attract a good level of player.”

The Rangers manager has had DVDs made to show to prospective signings, and he’s confident they will be blown away with the passion and atmosphere created at Ibrox,

“Last summer my son showed me that Penny Arcade clip on Youtube, 3-2 Rangers,” Warburton added to the Scottish Sun. “How can you not take this club? That’s what he said to me.

“We do that now. We go to the video and say ‘click on to that game from last week and that’s what you can be involved with’.

“Will it help with recruitment? I hope so.
