Kenny Miller has backed Mark Warburton to improve Rangers’ squad as they prepare for life in the Scottish Premiership next season.
The veteran striker admits the team needs beefing up in terms of numbers and quality but is convinced the manager will be given the transfer backing needed.
Warburton is on record as saying he wants up to eight new signings at the club ahead of next season.
The former Brentford boss has earned a crack at the Scottish Premiership by guiding Rangers to the Championship crown and leading them into a Scottish Cup Final that has opened up a pathway to European football next season if Hibernian are overcome on May 21.
Miller reckons the good working relationship Warburton has with the Rangers board will be key to their hopes of success in the top flight next season.
“The board have done a great job and I am sure they’ll back the manager as much as they can with summer recruits we are looking to get,” Miller said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“We need signings because we are light in numbers and we have full faith in the manager, Davie, Jim Stewart and Frank McParland and the work they’ve done.”
Miller, 36, whose goal in the final league game last Sunday took his tally to 20 for the season, has detected a desire within Warburton to continue to build on the foundations he has laid.
“We certainly hope he is here,” Miller said, as quoted by the Daily Record. “The manager says when players are linked with other clubs it is a reflection of how well they are doing in the team.
“It is the same with the manager and the job he is doing. None of the lads can speak highly enough of the manager and Davie Weir and the atmosphere they have created. He is going to be linked with big jobs in England because he has done a fantastic job here.
“It is not just the success we have had but it is the way we have all gone about our jobs. We hope he is here for a long time.
“He knows the size of this club, the goals for next season and there is no doubt he wants to be a part of it. When other teams come calling he’ll have a decision to make but we are hopeful he will be here for a long time.”
Miller is delighted with his 20-goal haul and looking to add to it in the Scottish Cup Final.
In other Rangers news, the club are lining up a big-money double swoop for a Premier League pair.
