Marcus Rashford is set to hold new contract talks with Manchester United following the sensational start to his career, Football Insider sources understand.

The 18-year-old’s current deal is worth around £500-a-week plus bonuses and he is in line for a significant pay rise.

Rashford has made an astonishing start to his senior career after being handed his debut by Louis van Gaal just four days ago.

A United source has told Football Insider that the Premier League giants will sit down with Rashford and his representatives to begin discussions on improved terms.

Rashford scored twice in a 5-1 triumph over Danish minnows Midtjylland on Thursday and then added another double in Sunday’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Arsenal.

He was compared afterwards by Van Gaal to Thomas Muller, Xavi and Patrick Kluivert, who were all handed their club debuts by the Dutchman, for the impact he has had at the start of his senior career.

Rashford is one of 14 players from United’s academy to have been given a first-team opportunity during Louis van Gaal’s reign.

Jesse Lingard and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are among those who have impressed for the senior side but none have had the impact of Rashford, who was given his chance only due to the lack of alternative options.

Anthony Martial is out with a hamstring injury sustained last week, Wayne Rooney is sidelined until April with knee ligament damage and Will Keane has a groin injury.
