West Ham target Alvaro Arbeloa is currently undergoing a medical at the club, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim that the Real Madrid left-back, who can also play on the right, is undergoing a medical at the Hammers ahead of his proposed deadline day move to the London Stadium.
The report says that Slaven Bilic should be able to secure his services on a free transfer before the window shuts at 11pm on Wednesday evening.
Arbeloa was most recently with the La Liga giants, but he is currently a free agent after his contract expired at the club this summer.
It is hoped that the 58-times capped Arbeloa will act as a mentor for Sam Byram as well as facilitate Michail Antonio playing further up the pitch, where he proved most effective last term.
The former Spain international broke through the Real Madrid youth system as a youngster before leaving for Deportivo La Coruna and then Liverpool.
During his two-year stay at Anfield he played in 98 fixtures for the club before returning to Spain and Real Madrid in 2009 for a £3.4million fee.
Slaven Bilic has reportedly had a bid rejected on deadline-day for versatile Aston Villa defender Micah Richards, as he looks to add more depth to the right-back position with attacker Antonio the only current alternative to Byram in his squad.
In other West Ham transfer news, Hammers defender Doneil Henry is likely to leave the club on loan.
