Jamie Redknapp has hit out at Marcus Rashford and has claimed the youngster let his side down during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Saturday.

The 19-year-old was at fault for Olivier Giroud’s late equaliser claims Redknapp, who highlighted Rashford’s inability to prevent the cross coming in from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as one of the main reasons for his side conceding.

The 89th-minute goal prevented Jose Mourinho’s side from picking up their first victory against a team in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

“When the manager trusts you to come out and play on the left-hand side role, whether you’re a forward or not, you have to do better,” said Redknapp, as reported by Sky Sports.

“He gets beaten miles too easily. Rashford didn’t do enough and I would be amazed if Jose Mourinho wasn’t telling him that in the dressing room.

“When you are hanging on for a win with two or three minutes to go, you have to do a job for the team. He let his team down there.”

Rashford started his seventh league game of the season against Arsenal, after making his last start in the competition during the 0-0 draw against against Burnley in October.

The youngster has rarely received criticism since breaking into the first team last season when he was handed a shock start against Midtjylland following an injury to Anthony Martial in the warm-up.

The academy graduate has since gone on to make 33 first team appearances, scoring 12 goals, including four in 14 appearances already this season.

He came on as a second-half substitute in England’s 2-2 draw against Spain on Tuesday evening but has had to compete for a starting role at United with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jesse Lingard.
