Jamie Redknapp has revealed that Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho is currently his favourite player to watch.

The 24-year-old has been in phenomenal form this season and is the main driving force behind the Reds’ strong start.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have emerged as title contenders this campaign and are currently third-placed in the Premier League table, only behind leaders Manchester City and Arsenal on goal difference.

Liverpool’s only defeat in the league was a shock one against Burnley and they have been in impressive form since, scoring 24 goals in their opening 10 games.

Coutinho has predominately been used in an attacking trio alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, meaning he is free to drift anywhere across the frontline.

Pundit and ex-Liverpool midfielder Redknapp believes that he has become the club’s talisman this season.

“The Brazilian magician is my favourite Liverpool player to watch right now,” Redknapp wrote on Sky Sports. “He’s the one I look forward to seeing. I’d have loved to have played with someone like him.

“He’s only 24 but he’s such a talented player and he’s become Liverpool’s talisman. When Liverpool are struggling, he’s the one they look to and more often than not he takes the game by the scruff of the neck.”

Coutinho has been a fan favourite since he arrived at Anfield in 2013 from Inter Milan.

The Brazilian midfielder has now made 156 appearances for the Reds, scoring 33 goals and supplying 33 assists.

The Merseyside club have transformed into an attacking side under manager Klopp and Coutinho has been key to the success.

He is currently enjoying a great spell in his first 11 appearances this campaign, scoring five goals and supplying five assists.
