Jamie Redknapp has hailed new Tottenham signing Vincent Janssen as the best Dutch export since Luis Suarez.
The former Spurs midfielder has named Janssen as one of his 10 Premier League players to watch this season alongside the likes of Sadio Mane, Leroy Sane and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Janssen joined Tottenham for £18million from AZ Alkmaar earlier in the summer after lighting up the Eredivisie last season and he has already caught the eye of one Holland all-time great.
“I was chatting to Ruud Gullit last week and he was talking very highly of this boy,” wrote Redknapp in his Mail column. “The last Dutch league export he talked up this much was Luis Suarez, so if Janssen is half as good he’ll be all right.
“The Dutch league has given us as many Mateja Kezmans as it has Dennis Bergkamps, but I’m hoping he’s the latter.
“A left-footed striker who can play out wide, Janssen is a real workhorse and his goals should take the heat off Harry Kane. While he may not start every game, he’s a very good option from the bench — something Spurs lacked as their title bid petered out last season.”
Janssen played up front with Kane in the second half of Spurs’ 6-1 demolition of Inter Milan last Friday.
The 22-year-old was the top scorer in the Dutch League last season with a virtual goal-a-game haul of 27 goals in 34 games. In all competitions, he struck 32 times in 49 matches.
The Holland spearhead has also scored three goals in five international appearances even though he only made his international bow in March.
He scored the equaliser from the penalty spot in the recent friendly against England at Wembley and netted the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Austria earlier this month.
