Aston Villa technical director Steve Round is a “big admirer” of Huddersfield Town manger David Wagner, according to a reliable journalist.

The Telegraph stated on Sunday morning that manager Roberto Di Matteo is set to be axed by owner Tony Xia in the next 48 hours.

Now, Telegraph reporter Matt Law has echoed that Di Matteo is “toast”, as he revealed that Villa’s recently appointed Technical Director Round is a big admirer of David Wagner.

German Wagner is the current boss of Huddersfield Town, with the Terriers top of the Championship table with 25 points from their opening 11 games.

Wagner recorded a 1-1 draw with the claret and blue club earlier on in the season, when the Championship table toppers snatched a draw at Villa Park.

“As per John Percy Telegraph, I hear Roberto Di Matteo is toast,” Law wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Steve Round is a big admirer of David Wagner.”

Former Manchester United and Everton assistant Round replaced the much criticised Paddy Riley as Technical Director in September.

The 45-year-old is tasked with overseeing transfers, as well helping appointing any new managers at the Championship club.
