Wolfsburg star Julian Draxler is desperate to make a sensational move to the Emirates that has been two years in the making, according to a report.
The former Schalke midfielder was one of Germany’s best performers at Euro 2016, as they reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by hosts France.
The Sun report that Draxler had been the subject of a £43million bid from Arsenal that would see manager Arsene Wenger break the Gunners’ £40million transfer record spent to prise Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013.
However, Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist Emanuele Giulianelli claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon that the North London club had not made a bid for the 22-year-old.
Nonetheless, Giulianelli did reveal that Draxler’s agent Roger Witmann had been in contact with Wenger over a possible move to London.
Wolfsburg’s number 10 was in impressive form last season, scoring nine goals in all competitions and making eight more in 35 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
The World Cup winner still has four years remaining on his contract at the Volkswagen Arena, after signing last summer for £30.6million from rivals Schalke.
Interestingly, Giulianelli tweeted that Draxler had always wanted to move to North London even during his time at Schalke.
Draxler began his career at Schalke, and has made 204 club appearances since making his debut in 2010 despite being just 22. He is renowned for his quick feet and vision, and can play as a number 10 or out wide.
In other Arsenal news, this goalkeeper is set to remain in Italy after a breakthrough in talks.
