New signing Pontus Jansson is expected to make his Leeds debut in their EFL Cup second round tie against Luton, according to a reliable journalist.

The Sweden international signed on a season-long loan from Torino last week but was not involved during Saturday’s 2-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsbroough.

Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer Phil Hay revealed on his personal Twitter account that the 6ft 5in centre-back is in line to partner club captain Sol Bamba at the heart of the Leeds defence against Luton.

This almost certainly suggests that Kyle Bartley and Liam Cooper, who have started the last two league matches, will be rested from the starting XI for the match at Kenilworth Road.

Jansson, 25 became Leeds’ tenth summer signing, after falling down the pecking order at the Stade Grande Torino following the centre-back signings of Luca Rossettini, Leandro Castan and Arlind Ajeti.

Ivory Coast international Bamba lost his place in the side following a poor performance against Birmingham, as well as the return to fitness of Cooper.

Leeds manager Garry Monk is expected to utilise his squad depth against the League two side, who were promoted from the National League last term as he looks to keep his first-team fresh for Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Fringe players Souleymae Doukara, Kalvin Phillips and Marco Silvestri could also come in to the Leeds side as Monk rotates his squad.

In other Leeds team news, Phillips has revealed that the Whites have been transformed following Saturday’s triumph.
