Liverpool are close to wrapping up three new signings, according to a reliable Merseyside journalist.

The Telegraph claim Mario Gotze has eluded manager Jurgen Klopp but he is closing in on a series of deals that will lift the number of players recruited this summer to seven.

Liverpool have signed four players to date during the summer transfer window and experienced Merseyside journalist Chris Bascombe says “at least three more are expected soon”.

This update will be welcomed by Liverpool supporters in a week in which the club have sold Jordan Ibe to Bournemouth for £15million, Martin Skrtel to Fenerbahce for £5.5million and young winger Sergi Canos to Norwich for £2.5million.

The Merseyside club are also in advanced talks with Crystal Palace over the sale of Christian Benteke.

Football Insider reported that the Eagles made an improved offer for the Liverpool striker last week of an initial £27million plus £4.5million of performance-related add-ons, just £1million short of the Reds asking price.

The deal is currently on ice but the striker is expected to leave Anfield even though he has four years to run on his current deal.

Liverpool have signed Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, Loris Karius and Marko Grujic in the summer transfer window but the signs are that supporters can expect more deals to be completed.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the club have agreed the terms of a club-record transfer.
