Arsenal have tabled an offer for Santos striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to a report.

ESPN Brazil claim Arsenal have made a bid for the Brazilian wonderkid but no official agreement has been reached with the club or the player.

The Brazilian outlet also claim that Barbosa has a £42m release clause in his contract.

Arsenal are on the lookout for a striker after the failed signing of Jamie Vardy, as reported by Football Insider.

Although the move could have hit a stumbling block as Gabriel is worried about the work permit implications of Britain’s decision to leave the EU.

ESPN’s report says the 19-year-old attacker, who recently broke into the Brazil senior team, also has offers from Italy and China amid interest from Juventus and Fiorentina.

However, it is claimed the young forward has told his agent he wants to play for a major European club and Arsenal is top of his list.

Barbosa, who scored on his international debut for Brazil, is a possible target for the north London club as they look to mount another title challenge in the coming season.

Barbosa came through the youth system at Santos, where to date he has netted on 22 occasions in 78 appearances for the Brazilian based club.
