Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has been offered a new contract, but the highly-sought after forward wants to join Arsenal, according to a report.
The Telegraph are reporting that, in an attempt to ward-off any interest, the French club have offered the 25-year-old a new contract, but he has informed the club he wishes to join Premier League side Arsenal.
The Londoners have had a bid of £29.5million rejected by the Ligue 1 giants as manager Arsene Wenger looks to add firepower to his much-criticised attack.
It is said the Gunners are set to table another bid of £35million for the France international, but Lyon will only consider letting a player they want to keep go for at least £42.2 million.
Arsenal are in the market for another striker after their front-line has been criticised by fans following the club’s continual failure to land the Premier League crown.
Giroud has been at the heart of that criticism as he notched up 16 goals last term, but was lambasted after a 15-game goal drought. His form was good at Euro 2016 though, where Giroud scored three goals for France as they made the final on home turf.
As Arsenal step-up their pursuit of a striker, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has publicly stated that he does not expect the Premier League club to make another bid for their forward.
Lacazette, who has attracted interest across Europe, was in fine form last season for current club Lyon, scoring 23 goals in his 44 appearances to help guide them to the Champions League.
The forward has only played for Lyon at senior level since his debut in 2010, but he has been regularly linked with a move away from the seven-time league winners.
The Ligue 1 Player of the Year for 204-15 has made 10 appearances for his national side, but was not selected for the French Euro 2016 squad.
The Gunners have already missed out on the signing of Gonzalo Higuaín, and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy rejected a contract at the Emirates and penned a new deal with the Foxes instead.
In other Arsenal transfer news, Arsene Wenger is interested in this young Portuguese ace, as scouts monitor his developments.
